Construction of 38kV substation and associated grid routes undertaken on behalf of Energia at Derrynageeha, Co Clare.
The grid route includes ducts, joints bays and backfill, constructed and proven to form an electrical conduit for the provision of a connection from an existing ESB 110kV substation at Booltiagh to the newly built OHL.
The grid route is over 7km in length and included works in both live and closed roads. Horizontal Directional Drilling was used for the crossing of the 3 bridges on the route. Most of the grid works on the closed roads sections was done through trenching due to the ground conditions locally.

The 38kV shared substation building consists of ESB, Control and Switchgear rooms along with staff area, office, WC and store. The substation compound is split between ESB and IPP areas each with its own access.
